Faculty of Veterinary Medicine-Skopje, as the National Laboratory for African swine fever became a partner in the campaign for African swine fever (#StopASF), organized by EFSA (European food safety authority), in cooperation with the Food and Veterinary Agency.
African swine fever (ASF) is a disease that is very dangerous for domestic and wild pigs. ASF causes high mortality in feral pigs and pigs on pig farms. It is harmless to humans, but it causes great economic losses to pig population and pig production, as well as serious socio-economic consequences.
There is currently no vaccine or cure for this disease. Therefore, it is very important to take timely action by citizens, tourists, farmers, hunters and veterinarians.
The aim of this campaign is to prevent the spread of this disease in our country and Southeast Europe. Awareness of the danger of this disease should be raised with the help of information materials. These informative materials enable acquaintance with the disease and early recognition of the symptoms of the disease. The information also contains explanations on how to act in a situation of raising suspicion of the disease, what measures to take and who to contact. Prompt response will prevent the spread of the disease and large financial losses in the country.
All promotional materials for regular information about this disease can be found at the link https://www.efsa.europa.eu/stopASF#/.
