DEFINITION OF THE COURSE

The course of Veterinary Legislation is studying veterinary legislation, international standards and everything related to organization and activities of the veterinary profession.

Position of the course in veterinary EDUCATION

Veterinary profession is regulated legal profession. All segments of its activities are determined by national and international systems, laws and standards. Through the course of Veterinary Legislation, students are becoming familiar with them, in order to be prepared to be successfully engaged in the work systems and different areas covered by veterinary medicine.

CONNECTION WITH THE previous and future EDUCATION

The Veterinary Legislation course unites knowledge that students have previously acquired in other courses in the areas of animal health, food safety, veterinary medicinal products, animal feed, animal welfare and other areas of veterinary medicine. The course is a prerequisite for further education and acquiring the status of official and approved veterinarian.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

The aim of the Veterinary Legislation course is to introduce the students, as future official and approved veterinarians, in to the legal regulation of state, in the principles of international and national veterinary legislation, the organization of veterinary service in the world, the EU and the Republic of Macedonia.

PROGRAM

A / Theoretical part Constitution of the Republic, primary and secondary legislation, laws governing the operation of administrative bodies, the Law on General Administrative Procedure.

International standards in veterinary medicine and organization of the veterinary profession at international level: OIE, WTO SPS Agreement, Codex Alimentarius.

EU veterinary legislation (Acquis comunitaire veterinaire), institutions and organization of veterinary services in the EU and the process of harmonization of the Macedonian national legislation with the EU.

Macedonian national legislation in the veterinary field: Law for the identification and registration of animals and the accompanying bylaws, the Law on Veterinary Health and the accompanying bylaws, the Law on Food Safety and accompanying bylaws, the Law on Welfare and Animal Protection and the accompanying bylaws, Law on Waste and By-products of Animal Origin and the accompanying bylaws, the Law on Veterinary Medicinal Products and accompanying bylaws, the Law on Animal Feed and accompanying bylaws, annual program for animal health, multi-year programs to combat various diseases the country.

B / Practical part

Legislation in EU directives, regulations and decisions

Acts and documents adopted by the authorized official and veterinarians: Documents for identification and registration of animals, health certificates, transcripts, documents in slaughterhouses, dairies, processing facilities and others. International veterinary certificates.

PERFORMING OF THE CLASSES

Theoretical: 2 hours per week (30 hours)

Practical: 1 hour per week (15 hours)

METHODOLOGY OF THE COURSE

Theoretical: interactive (lectures in groups with discussion and engagement of students)

Practical: exercises and other forms of work in smaller groups

Seminar work: learning using professional literature and the Internet, preparing seminar paper (essay / poster) presentation and discussion of the essay.
