Prof. dr. Metka Kuhar

I am a university graduate of communication science by profession (2001) and, since 2016, a habilitated full professor in the field of social psychology. My academic work has been focusing on the following fields: psychology of communication and participatory processes as well as  youth, family, gender and self-image studies, and lately the research and teaching on trauma. Of my scientific publications and expert articles, the books V imenu lepote: družbena konstrukcija telesne samopodobe (In the name of beauty: Social construction of body image) (2004) and Mladi, družina, starševstvo (Youth, family, parenthood) (co-authored with M. UIe, 2004) have received much public attention.

I am a certified practitioner of Craniosacral Resonance, Somatic Experiencing and the NeuroAffective Relational Model. I have also acquired knowledge and experience from many other approaches, including the body-psychotherapeutic method Core Evolution, partner therapy based on the Learning Love approach, Nonviolent Communication (by M. Rosenberg), Somatic Attachment (by Diane Poole Heller), etc. I am a Yoga and Shakti Dance teacher as well as a certified Tuina Massage practitioner. I am a member of the European Association for Body Psychotherapy, the European Society for Trauma & Dissociation and the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute.

In my work with clients, it is vitally important for me that a safe and compassionate atmosphere is created in which we can explore together the identified problem or challenge also at the level of body sensations, through touch and movement, so as to bring clarity and self-confidence into the complex situations we find ourselves in.
