Dr. Viktor Jurkovich
Dr. Viktor Jurkovich was born in Orosháza, and after his high school studies, he was admitted to the University of Veterinary Medicine in Budapest in 1993. He graduated in 1998, and immediately after receiving his diploma, from 1 January 1999, he became a member of the University’s Department of Animal Hygiene, Livestock Hygiene and Veterinary Ethology, first as a PhD student and later as a departmental staff member. He obtained his PhD degree in 2007, habilitated in 2014, and obtained his diploma as a Specialist Veterinarian in Ruminant Health in 2015. He is a member of the University’s Workplace Animal Welfare Committee, the European Animal Welfare College, and several professional organizations.
Main research areas:
- Investigation of factors influencing the animal welfare status of cattle herds (foot diseases, feeding and housing errors, heat stress, etc.)
- Investigation of the etiology, development and prevention of foot diseases in dairy cows
- Methods for assessing animal welfare in commercial livestock herds
- The occurrence of paratuberculosis and the possibility of protection against it in dairy farms
