Svenja Springer completed her veterinary studies at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna in 2014 and earned her doctorate there in 2018 with a thesis on “Euthanasia in Small Animal Medicine.” In 2017, she began a PhD program at the University of Copenhagen, where she examined the moral challenges arising from the continuous advancements in small animal medicine, successfully completing it in 2022.
Since March 2025, Svenja Springer has been working as an Assistant Professor of Veterinary Medical Ethics at the Messerli Research Institute of the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna. Her research interests focus on the empirical analysis of human-animal relationships and the moral challenges faced by veterinarians in their professional practice. Additionally, she gives talks at national and international conferences to highlight issues in veterinary medical ethics.
In her lectures, Svenja Springer emphasizes the identification, reflection, and discussion of existing challenges and problems, rather than focusing primarily on the question of “How should a veterinarian act?”
