Assoc. prof. Mario Ostović

Mario Ostović is Associate Professor at Department of Animal Hygiene, Behaviour and Welfare, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb, Zagreb, Croatia. At the same Department, he graduated in 2005 and earned PhD degree in 2012. He is subject head and lecturer in undergraduate and postgraduate studies, and head of the postgraduate master study Farm Animal Welfare at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb. In the 2011-2014 period, Assoc. Prof. Mario Ostović was engaged as associate on the international FP7 project entitled Animal Welfare Research in an Enlarged Europe (AWARE). From 2013 until 2019, he worked as head and associate on University of Zagreb programme contracts (supports) on the topic of animal welfare. He was member of the Organisational Committee of the UFAW International Animal Welfare Science Symposium and HSA (Humane Slaughter Association) International Symposium 2015 held in Zagreb, Croatia, in 2015, as well as member of the Scientific Committee and co-editor of the Proceedings of the 1st Regional Animal Welfare Center (RAWC) Scientific Conference on the topic of Better Science for Better Animal Welfare, held online in 2021. He is co-editor and co-author of the university textbook entitled Dobrobit životinja (Animal Welfare). In the International Society for Animal Hygiene, Assoc. Prof. Mario Ostović is representative of the Republic of Croatia since 2011. At the World’s Poultry Science Association, he was representative of the Republic of Croatia in the Working Group No 9 for Poultry Welfare and Management during the 2008-2019 period. Recently, Assoc. Prof. Mario Ostović has embarked upon investigating student attitudes toward animal welfare.
